About

Beatriz Mejia-Krumbein

beatriz-insomniaI was born and raised in Colombia, South America. I lived in Germany, and Mexico before I immigrated to the United States in 1987. I studied Fine Arts and Music in Colombia, and received an M.F.A. from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. After working for seventeen years as faculty, chair of the Art Department and director of the Brandstater Gallery at La Sierra University in Riverside, CA, I retired from the academic responsibilities to dedicate my time to create art, interact actively with the community, and promote the arts.

This site features my art.  It expresses my genuine concern for human rights and the need for solidarity. It questions unjust actions and shows skepticism toward mandated behavior. The complexity of my art raises a voice against social injustice and violence. My images create an unsettling narrative, pointing out the plight of children, women, and the forgotten ones in society.

Mi art artwork is included in the permanent collections of Los Angeles County Museum/ Printmaking Archives, Museum of Latino-American Art, Long Beach, CA, UC Santa Barbara, CA/Caridad Project, The Huntington Museum at UT Austin, The Museum of American Art of The Smithsonian Institute/Self Help Graphics Archives, Riverside Art Museum. Riverside CA, Museo de Antioquia. Medellin, Colombia, Biblioteca Publica Piloto. Medellin, Colombia, and other national and international private collections.
